Gaddis, William (Thomas)
(29 dic. 1922, Nueva York, N.Y. EE.UU.–16 dic. 1998, East Hampton, N.Y.).

Novelista estadounidense. Asistió a la Universidad de Harvard y después escribió discursos y guiones. Sus largas novelas experimentales se caracterizan por una trama y un lenguaje complejos y alusivos y una visión oscura (si bien con frecuencia humorística) de la sociedad estadounidense contemporánea. La primera, Los reconocimientos (1955), un examen en varios niveles de la decadencia espiritual, sólo fue reconocida tardíamente como una obra maestra. Desanimado por este recibimiento, no publicó nada más hasta JR (1975, premio nacional del libro), que retrata la avaricia, hipocresía y banalidad del mundo de los negocios. Sus últimas novelas son Carpenter's Gothic (1985) y Su pasatiempo favorito (1994, premio nacional del libro).
